Who am I?
My name is Kai. I’m a Bay Area bred Sierra Leonean chic!
If you have not noticed =D, I have a passion for make-up. I am not a professional, however, I am strongly considering attending make-up artistry classes or even beauty school to further hone my skills (AFTER I obtain my bachelors in November 2010 *woot woot*!! of course).
Why create a blog ?
I’ll admit that I do not fancy people encouraging viewers to visit their blogs in their YouTube videos. The only thing that alleviates my irritation in visiting a blog, is discovering that it provides pictures, swatches, reviews, and helpful information. This is exactly what I aim to do with my blog. You won’t just find lists of products used here! =D
Another motivator is that as an African American (AA), I do not feel that there are enough makeup queens and kings on YouTube who I can turn to.I want to see more of “me” - as in people I can relate to - on YouTube and more “me’s” doing cosmetic blogs. For example, it really doesn’t help me in watching Xsparkage’s (A popular makeup guru on YouTube) swatch reviews of a product, because well shoot… It won’t look the same on me. However, I can appreciate her talent and study her application techniques!
For example, I was recently researching purchasing Ben Nye products. It was VERY difficult for me to find AA reviews on his products. I couldn’t really find great swatches on dark brown skin, nor could I find Ben Nye eyeshadow looks on AA skin. It quickly became apparent that if I wanted to try his products I would have to give it a go without as much AA feedback as I would have liked! (Hence, my first blog review will be on my Ben Nye Haul- stay tuned !!!)
One of my absolute FAVORITE quotes is “Be the change you want to see in the world”. This is applicable to everything..from something as small as wanting to see more AA video’s and blogs online to something as big as being a humanitarian. If you want to see more of something guys, do it, be it, and/or make it happen!
